Westlake Youth Wrestling Club
Mighty Mite Team
This class will be limited to younger wrestlers from kindergarten - 2nd grade. Wrestling will be taught in a goals-based format, like "capture opponents foot", rather than drilling of moves. Purpose is to improve coordination and mat/body awareness so that wrestling is fun and natural. Small space, small group but a big fun time.
This is a recreational wrestling class for elementary kids from 3rd - 8th grade. Wrestling instruction will include rules, basic positions and basic technique. Much of the session will be full speed goals-based format, like "get opponents hands to the mat". Recreational and competitive practices will be concurrent. Tailored for kids who want to try the sport but have other sport conflicts or are unsure about competition.
This is the class for those interested in getting the most out of their efforts. Wrestling instruction will be tailored towards readyness for competition. Rules, positions and technique will be interspersed with full speed goals-based sparing. Participants are required to compete in the competition schedule (3-4 local tournaments). Classes and tournaments for the Tournament Team extend beyond the holiday break until at lease late January.
Exciting news! In addition to offering a free practice to decide if you want to join, we have expanded the ways you can participate in WYWC. We are now offering Recreational Wrestling for K-2 and grade 3- 8 kids to compliment our regular competitive team option. It is also possible to start out in a recreational team and upgrade to the competitive team if you choose. Check out the options below......
